Highlights

  1. In 2006, air traffic at Canadian airports continued an upward trend begun in 2003; the total enplaned/deplaned passenger numbers surpassed the 100 million mark for the first time. The number of passengers (101.0 million) increased by 6.8% compared to 2005 (94.6 million).
  2. Of the top 50 airports based on passengers enplaned and deplaned, Grande Prairie (+43.8 %), Fort McMurray (+38.2 %) and Hamilton (+35.5 %) recorded the strongest percentage gains in 2006 over 2005. Goose Bay (-11.4%) and Yellowknife (-10.8%) showed the largest percentage declines in 2006 compared to 2005.
  3. Domestic (+8.6%), transborder (+4.9%) and other international (+2.6%) sectors all showed growth over 2005.
