Rural Statistics in Canada
Rural Canada Housing Profiles, 2023

Release date: March 11, 2025

The Rural Canada Housing Profiles (RCHP) database provides information on key variables related to housing in rural and small town (RST) Canada. Comprising five tables, the RCHP database addresses themes such as residential building permits; investment in residential building construction; residential property characteristics; occupied private dwelling characteristics; and private household characteristics.

The tables draw from various Statistics Canada programs including the Building Permits Program, Investment in Building Construction Program, Canadian Housing Statistics Program, and the 2021 Census of Population.

Data are accessible at different geographic levels including Canada, province or territory, census subdivision, and RST or functional urban areas. The RCHP database defines RST areas as those outside of census metropolitan areas (CMAs) or census agglomerations (CAs). Functional urban areas are those inside CMAs or CAs.

Tables available for the RCHP database include:

Table 46-10-0087-01: Rural Canada Housing Profiles, residential building permits, numbers and values, by type of residential building and type of work (New data)

Table 46-10-0088-01: Rural Canada Housing Profiles, values of investments in residential building construction, by type of residential building and type of work (New data)
