Refinery production in April 2007 totalled 9.7 million cubic metres, 829.7 thousand cubic metres or 9.4% higher than April 2006. This increase was led by 605.7 thousand cubic metre or 20% jump in motor gasoline production. Diesel fuel increased 192.0 thousand cubic metres or 9.7%.

Crude oil and equivalent received by domestic refineries in April 2007 totalled 8.7 million cubic metres, 780.2 thousand cubic metres or 9.8% higher than the same month a year earlier.

The increase in refinery receipts was led by a 782.7 thousand cubic metre or 21.9% increase in domestic crude oil receipts to 4.4 million cubic metres. Crude oil Imports were down slightly to 4.3 million cubic metres from a year earlier.

Imports represented nearly 50% of domestic refinery needs. OPEC accounted for 40.9% of this volume led by Algeria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Norway and the United Kingdom supplied and additional 46.7% of crude oil imports. Other suppliers include Russia, Angola and the United States.

Sales of refined petroleum products in April 2007 totalled 7.6 million cubic metres, 171.8 thousand cubic metres or 2.3% above a year earlier. Diesel fuel oil sales increased 104.5 thousand cubic metres or 5.7%. Motor gasoline sales were up 76.8 thousand cubic metres or 2.4%.

Crude oil and refined petroleum product inventories held by refineries and major distributors closed April 2007 at 14.5 million cubic metres, 1.2 million cubic metres or 9.8% higher than the same month a year earlier.

Of this volume, crude oil inventories at the end of April 2007 totaled 3.5 million cubic metres, 425.0 thousand cubic metres or 13.8% above April 2006. Inventories of refined petroleum products totaled 11.0 million cubic metres, 863.8 thousand cubic metres or 8.5% above the same month a year earlier.

Closing inventories of motor gasoline were 38.8 thousand cubic metres or 1.5% higher than the end of April 2006. Diesel fuel oil inventories were 81.4 thousand cubic metres or 4.0% above the same month a year earlier.
