Introduction
Canadians’ health and their social and economic wellbeing are fundamentally linked to the quality of their environment. Recognizing this, the Government of Canada has committed to reporting national indicators of air quality, greenhouse gas emissions and freshwater quality. The goal of these indicators is to provide Canadians with more regular and consistent information on the state of their environment and how it is linked with human activities.
This Socio-economic Information module of the Canadian Environment Sustainability Indicators is intended to help users put the indicator results in context by providing information about some of the main forces driving the changes in the indicators. It draws on the social and economic information that Statistics Canada assembles through its many programs.
