Current transfers received

For both income concepts, government transfers include all transfer payments from federal and provincial governments programs intended to provide income support to certain groups, such as seniors, families and those injured in the workplace. The MEA also include scholarships, bursaries and research grants, which are included as other income in the SPSD/M.

While both income concepts include transfers received from corporations for pension plan benefits, the SPSD/M also includes withdrawals from registered retirement savings plans.

In contrast to the SPSD/M, the MEA include transfers from non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH) and transfers received from non-residents, mainly through pensions paid by foreign governments and from non-resident households for purposes such as providing financial assistance.
