In Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador, the proportion is higher than in the rest of Canada.
In Nova Scotia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories, the proportion is similar to the rest of Canada.
In the remaining provinces and in Nunavut, the proportion is lower than in the rest of Canada.
About half of all children 0 to 5 years in a child care arrangement were in a daycare centre
- Daycare centre, preschool, or centre de la petite enfance (CPE): 49%
- Care by a relative other than a parent: 28%
- Family child care home: 19%
- Before and after school program: 7%

Of the parents/guardians who do not use any child care:
- 28% said they felt it was unsafe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
There was a great deal of variability across the provinces and territories. For example, approximately 1 in 3 parents in Ontario and British Columbia who did not use child care felt it was unsafe to return, compared with about 1 in 8 parents in Newfoundland and Labrador and in Nunavut.
