Well-being of youth not in employment, education or training in Canada, 2015 to 2017
Youth not in employment, education or training (NEET) includes those aged 18 to 29 who were not working or enrolled in school during the reference week.
11.1% of Canadian youth (aged 18 to 29) were identified as NEET.
Among these youth:
- 38.0% Looking for paid work
- 27.5% Caring for children
- 34.5% Other activities*
*Were primarily engaged in another activity, such as housework, volunteering or caregiving (other than child care), or had a long-term illness.
Youth NEET were less likely to report positive health or life satisfaction.

Youth NEET were more likely to report mood or anxiety disorders.

Life satisfaction of Youth NEET varied by activity. Those looking for paid work were least likely to be very satisfied with their lives.
