Life After Service Survey, 2019: Key findings on Veterans' transition to civilian life

The Life After Service Survey is a national longitudinal survey that collects information on the transition from military life to post-service life.

Every year, thousands of Regular Force members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) transition from active duty to civilian life.

Adjustment to post-service life:

  • 2 in 5 Veterans reported difficultiesFootnote 1 adjusting to post-service life.
  • 1 in 3 Veterans reported their family experienced difficulties adjusting to their release from active duty.Footnote 2

4 in 5 Veterans who worked or ran a business reported being satisfied with their work (79%).

Job stability: 79% of CAF members released prior to 2013 had the same job in 2019 as they did in 2016.
