The recent increase in exports' share of GDP has been exceptional. Imports have mirrored the trend in exports, with trade across the U.S. border being the driving force for both. Using Statistics Canada's Input-Output tables, this article explores the issue of some goods moving back and forth across the border at various stages of processing. But, it should be recognized that Canada's travel account does not measure the financial health of its tourism industry. Canada's travel account simply measures the difference between earnings from visitors travelling in Canada and spending by Canadian residents travelling abroad.
