Among individuals aged 75 and older in 2016, 34% were foreign-born and 27% had a mother tongue other than English or French, compared with 29% and 21%, respectively, in 1991. There is a pressing need for a better understanding of the living arrangements of immigrant and ethnic minority seniors in response to shifting demographics. This article provides an overview of the living arrangements of Canadians aged 75 and older across mother tongue groups. Analysis is based on the 2016 Census of Population short-form questionnaire and includes older seniors in both private and collective residences.
