This report examines the nature and extent of hate crime in Canada. Two complementary types of data are used: police-reported data drawn from the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey and the Hate Crime Supplemental Survey; and, self-reported data obtained from the General Social Survey on victimization. Key topics include motivations for hate crime (e.g. race/ethnicity, religion, and sexual orientation), types of offences, geographical comparisons, accused and victim characteristics, consequences of hate crime and international comparisons. The report is intended to respond to the needs of those who work in the criminal justice system as well as to inform researchers, policy analysts, academics, the media and the general public.

The Participation and Activity Limitation Survey (PALS) is Canada's national survey that gathers information about adults and children whose daily activities are limited by a physical, mental, or other health-related condition or problem. This report presents an overview of the use and need for assistive technology for people with disabilities as well as sources of payment and reasons for not having this technology.

In 1999, the first nationally representative survey of the mental health of children and young people aged 5-15 was carried out in Great Britain. A second survey was carried out in 2004. The aim of these surveys was threefold: to estimate the prevalence of mental disorders among young people, to look at their use of health, social and educational services, and to investigate risk factors associated with mental disorders. The achieved number of interviews was 10,500 and 8,000 respectively. Some key questions had to be addressed on a large number of methodological issues and the factors taken into account to reach decisions on all these issues are discussed.
