    Description: The public use microdata file (PUMF) from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) provides data for health regions and combinations of health regions across Canada. Over the two year period, data are based on interviews with approximately 130,000 respondents aged 12 or older, residing in households in all provinces and territories.

    The files include information on a wide range of topics, including: physical activity, height and weight, smoking, exposure to second hand smoke, alcohol consumption, general health, chronic health conditions, injuries, and use of health care services. It also provides information on the socio-demographic, income and labour force characteristics of the population.

    Description: Polysubstance use—the use of multiple substances on the same or different occasions—is a risk factor for substance use disorder. However, national surveillance of substance use in Canada has often focused on use of a single substance. To better understand and address polysubstance use, this study characterized the use of vaping products, cigarettes, inhaled cannabis, and alcohol among Canadians aged 15 years and older. Nationally representative data from the 2020 Canadian Tobacco and Nicotine Survey were analyzed.

    Information in this microdata file refers to survey data collected in September - November, 1994 for persons 15 years of age and older in Canada's ten provinces. The survey's main data objectives were to measure the prevalence and patterns of alcohol and other drug use, to assess harm and other consequences of drug use and to evaluate trends in recent patterns of use. Canada's Alcohol and Other Drugs Survey (CADS) also updates and expands upon data collected in the first survey, the National Alcohol and Other Drugs Survey (NADS), conducted in 1989.

    The term "residential care facilities" refers to facilities with four beds or more that are funded, licensed or approved by provincial/territorial departments of health and/or social services. This report focuses on facilities for the aged, facilities for persons with mental disorders and other facilities which provide health or social care. Facilities for the aged include homes for the aged, nursing homes, lodges for senior citizens and rest homes. Facilities such as apartments or other homes for seniors that do not provide any level of care are not included. Facilities for persons with mental disorders include facilities for the psychiatrically disabled, the developmentally delayed, the emotionally disturbed children and centres for those with drug/alcohol problems. Some psychiatric institutions are included here. Facilities in the category 'Other' include those that do not fit in any of the previous categories. Facilities for persons with physical disabilities, for delinquents and transients would be included here.
