    This Juristat uses data from the 2014 General Social Survey on Canadians' Safety (Victimization) to analyze self-reported victimization among people with mental health-related disabilities, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, anorexia, substance abuse and other conditions which limit their daily lives. Victims' experiences with the justice system, including interactions with police and use of victims' support services, are reviewed. Additionally, this article looks at how mental health disability, substance use, homelessness and a history of child abuse intersect to define an especially vulnerable population. The association between disabilities related to mental health and key markers of societal participation is also reviewed.

    This study describes acute care hospitalizations for mental/behavioural disorders among First Nations people living on and off reserve. The 2006 Census was linked to the Discharge Abstract Database from 2006/2007 through 2008/2009 for all provinces (except Ontario and Quebec) and the three territories. Hospitalizations for seven types of disorders were identified.

How do I use the filters and the search box?

How are the results ordered?

The Sort by feature provides three options:

  • By date – sorts results by product release date starting with the most recent.
  • By relevance is only needed or beneficial when you use the search box and submit a search query. Results are ordered by a combination of where the search term appears in the content, e.g., if it appears in the title, it likely means the product is more relevant to your search; how up to date or new the content in the product is; how popular the product is; and other factors.
  • By title – sorts results alphabetically.
