This service bulletin presents the geographic distribution of federal government science and technology expenditures. Data on federal government expenditures on science and technology are found in Volume 25 No. 9 of this publication series, released in November 2001. In both this and the earlier bulletin, science and technology (S&T) expenditures are the sum of expenditures on research and development (R&D) and on related scientific activities (RSA).

This publication presents the national gross domestic expenditures on research and development (GERD) from 1990 to 2001 as well as the Provincial GERD from 1990 to 1999. Up until 1985, GERD included research and development (R&D) expenditures in the Natural Sciences and Engineering (NSE) only. Beginning in 1985, Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) activities are also included in GERD. An additional series of tables showing R&D expenditures at the national level in either science from 1963 to 1989, or at the provincial level from 1979 to 1989, may be obtained from the Science and Innovation Surveys Section, Science, Innovation and Electronic Information Division.

The scope of the survey is to collect and analyze information on the application of dispositions under the Young Offenders Act from provincial and territorial agencies responsible for youth corrections and programs.

Section 1 described results for small for-hire carriers whose operating revenues were between $30,000 and $1,000,000. For most of the post-war period, Canada and the United States have utilized an open regime to govern trade relations between the two countries. Such has not always been the case for transborder air services, however. In 1966, the two countries signed an air services accord (ASA) that governed commercial air services between the two. The 1966 accord was quite restrictive, limiting entry and price competition in transborder markets. This restrictive agreement governed Canada-U.S. air service for almost 30 years, finally being replaced in 1995 with a new ASA that has granted entry and pricing freedom in transborder markets.

This publication is an annual review of statistics on Canadian education. It summarizes information on institutions, enrolment, graduates, teachers and finance for all levels of education and provides an analysis of the data. Ten-year time series are shown for most variables at the Canada level and five-year time series at the provincial level. The publication also provides demographic data from the census of Canada and educational attainment, labour force participation rates and unemployment rates of the adult population from the Labour Force Survey.

This annual product presents summary data on charges and cases dealt with in adult provincial/territorial criminal courts of nine provinces and territories in Canada. Reporting jurisdictions include: Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. In addition, Alberta and the Yukon report Superior Court data to the Adult Criminal Court Survey. These jurisdictions represent approximately 80% of the national adult criminal court caseload. Information is presented by age and sex of the accused, type of offence, and type of court decision, and by type of sentence imposed for convictions. Tables are presented in two sections. The first section provides an offence overview of charges and cases heard in adult criminal court. The second consists of provincial and territorial overviews of charges and cases heard in adult criminal court.

This online publication presents annual, detailed financial statistics on the Canadian telephone industry by province. Also included are operational data such as wire mileage, number of telephone calls and number of access lines in service. There is a textual analysis of the data with comments on methodology, a data quality and a glossary of terms.

This report presents a brief overview of the information collected in Cycle 14 of the General Social Survey (GSS). Cycle 14 is the first cycle to collect detailed information on access to and use of information communication technology in Canada. Topics include general use of technology and computers, technology in the workplace, development of computer skills, frequency of Internet and E-mail use, non-users and security and information on the Internet. The target population of the GSS is all individuals aged 15 and over living in a private household in one of the ten provinces.

Part of Statistics Canada's Econnections: linking the environment and the economy statistical series, this product consists of a printed publication combined with a CD-ROM. The product offers summary indicators plus detailed statistics that quantify the relationship between economic activity and the environment. Information is presented for issues ranging from greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy use, to natural resource wealth, environmental expenditures and beyond. The printed publication provides convenient reference to the summary indicators, including analysis of important trends, while the CD-ROM offers straightforward access to dozens of detailed statistical tables that underlie the indicators. An electronic version of the printed publication is included on the CD-ROM and each indicator in the publication is hypertext linked to a group of related statistical tables, allowing the user to easily select detailed statistics for viewing in association with any given indicator. Simple analysis of the statistics can be done directly within the CD-ROM's software. For those who carry out more complex analysis, downloading of data from the CD-ROM in standard spreadsheet format is easily accomplished.

This guide presents information of interest to users of data from the Survey of Household Spending. Data are collected via personal interview conducted in January, February and March after the reference year using a paper questionnaire. Information is gathered about the spending habits, dwelling characteristics and household equipment of Canadian households during the reference year. The survey covers private households in the ten provinces. (The three territories are surveyed every second year starting in 2001.)

This guide includes definitions of survey terms and variables, as well as descriptions of survey methodology and data quality. There is also a section describing the various statistics that can be created using expenditure data (e.g., budget share, market share, and aggregates).
