Map 1
Annual water yield per area in selected drainage regions, 2021
Map description
The title of the map is "Annual water yield per area in selected drainage regions, 2021"
The main map shows the terrestrial and freshwater extent of Canada, with black lines delineating the boundaries of the 25 drainage regions.
The north line is symbolized by a dark red line crossing the country from the west coast in the north of British Columbia to the east coast on the northwestern part of Newfoundland. Drainage regions are marked on the map with a black label of their corresponding codes presented in the bottom code description section. Drainage regions 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25N are below the north line. Drainage regions 1, 2, 6, 15, 14, 13, 17, 18 and 22 are intersected by the north line, and drainage regions 5, 7, 8, 16 and 25L are above the north line.
Drainage regions are coloured in blue, with different shades representing the water yield normalized to the area of the drainage region (in cubic metres per square metre). Drainage regions with the highest water yield are represented by darker blue shading. No data is available for drainage regions 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 25L. These drainage regions are represented by grey shaded areas.
Legend:
The grey shaded area represents drainage regions where no data is available.
The blue shaded area indicates drainage regions with water yield data. The shading intensity varies, with the lightest blue representing a water yield of 0 m³/m2 and the darkest blue representing a water yield of 1.734 m³/m².
The dark red line denotes the north line.
Note: The drainage regions in this map are a modified version of the Standard Drainage Area Classification. The drainage region of Newfoundland and Labrador is separated into the Newfoundland part (25N) and the Labrador part (25L). Water yield estimates are only provided for the drainage regions where data are sufficient for validation.
