This is a map of Canada showing the month-to-month percentage changes for total building permit value. Green arrows represent an increase, while red arrows represent a decrease.

Building permit values in Canada were down 13.2% compared with February 2020. Newfoundland and Labrador was down 51.8%, Prince Edward Island was up 24.2%, Nova Scotia was up 47.8%, New Brunswick was down 0.9%, Quebec was down 18.1%, Ontario was down 12.9%, Manitoba was up 19.1%, Saskatchewan was down 6.7%, Alberta was down 14.4%, British Columbia was down 19.4%, Yukon was down 21.0%, the Northwest Territories was down 84.6%, and the data for Nunavut were too unreliable to be published.

Residential: The total value was down 13.1% month over month.

Non residential: The total value was down 13.3% month over month.

Single-family dwellings: The total value was $2,152 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 15.3%, or $387.4 million.

Multi-family dwellings: The total value was $2,470 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 11.1%, or $308.9 million.

Industrial: The total value was $583 million, representing a month-over-month increase of 14.9%, or $75.6 million.

Commercial: The total value was $1,593 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 19.7%, or $391.3 million.

Institutional: The total value was $602 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 15.7%, or $112.3 million.
