It provides an overview of every phase of the census, from content determination to data dissemination. It traces the history of the census from the early days of New France to the present. It also contains information about the protection of confidential information in census questionnaires and statistical tables. It provides a detailed description of the census questions and variables, along with information about data quality and the possible uses of census data. Also covered are census geography and the range of products and services available from the 2001 Census database. The 2001 Census Handbook may be useful to new users who wish to familiarise themselves with the Canadian Census of Population. It will also be helpful to experienced users who want information about the specific content of the 2001 Census of Population and Census of Agriculture.
