To measure this dimension, Statistics Canada developed an Index of Remoteness of communities. For each populated community (census subdivision), the index is determined by its distance to all the population centres defined by Statistics Canada in a given travel radius, as well as their population size.

Statistics Canada's Greenhouse Gas Account is compiled based on the SEEA guidelines, while the National GHG Inventory is prepared by Environment and Climate Change Canada in accordance with the UNFCCC.

The Canadian Housing Statistics Program (CHSP) produces a comprehensive repository of statistics that covers numerous aspects of the housing sector, including property and owner characteristics. As the amount of data produced increases, the CHSP has introduced thematic maps to help people, business owners, academics, and management at all levels, to understand key information derived from the data by representing it visually at the geographical level. Thematic maps can be used quickly to communicate a message, to simplify the presentation of large amounts of data, to see data patterns and relationships and to monitor changes in variables over time.

The demographic and labour market activity information that is in the Labour Market Activity Survey (LMAS) is now available on compact disk. The files contain all the important demographic variables such as province, age, sex, marital status, education, visible minority membership, disability and immigration status for 60,000 persons each year representing the Canadian population from 1986 to 1990. They contain information about the jobs people held: type of activity, schedules, wages, earnings, unionization, pension coverage, and self-employment. There is also information about unemployment spells, unpaid absences, training and schooling, sources of income and some family characteristics. Any of the variables can be combined with others to create a virtually unlimited number of tables for analysis.

The three disks contain seven separate files and each file contains about 60,000 samples of individuals. Five different samples represent the annual populations, 1986 to 1990; one file contains 1986-87 two year histories for a sample of individuals, and a second file contains 1988-1990 three year histories for another sample of individuals.

In response to this need, Statistics Canada initiated the development of a Real-time Local Business Conditions Index (RT-LBCI). Description: The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) Data Portal is a collaboration between Statistics Canada and Natural Resources Canada, which administers the ESTMA. The ESTMA helps the Government of Canada deter corruption in the extractive sector by requiring extractive entities that are active in Canada to publicly disclose, on an annual basis, certain types of payments made to governments in Canada and abroad. The goal of the data portal is to increase the accessibility and utility of the payment information collected under the ESTMA by bringing together all available ESTMA data in one online location, and further enriching the payment data with analytical functions that help users to leverage the complete ESTMA dataset. The database has also been designed with mobility in mind to ensure that users and stakeholders have mobile access to ESTMA data.
