This is a vertically stacked bar graph breaking down the average time per day men and women spent on paid and unpaid work activities in 1986 and 2005.

The Y axis is measured by hours per day and increases by increments of one from 0 up to 10.

On the X axis from left to right are men, women and the total population. Each group includes data for two years: 1986 and 2005.

Each bar represents the total average hours worked per day, disaggregated by unpaid household work on the top and paid work underneath.

The data points for total work hours are 8.2 and 8.8 for men in 1986 and 2005 respectively; 8.1 and 8.7 for women and 8.2 and 8.8 for the total population.

Within the bars, the hours per day men devoted to household work rose from 2.1 in 1986 to 2.5 in 2005 while there was no real change in the paid work hours of men. For women, the paid work hours increased from 3.3 per day in 1986 to 4.4 in 2005, while the unpaid hours declined form 4.8 to 4.3. For the total population, the paid work time increased from 4.7 to 5.4 while there was no change in the unpaid work time.
