This is a vertically stacked bar graph that illustrates the proportion of the population with at least one close friend by age in 1990 and 2006.

The Y axis is measured by percentages and increases by increments of ten from 0 up to 100.

On the X axis from left to right the population is disaggregated into the following five age groups: 15 to 24, 25 to 44, 45 to 64 65 to 74 and 75 and over. Each group includes data for two years: 1990 and 2006. There are also bars for each year for the total population.

Each bar represents the total percentage of people reporting they had at least one close friend in the respective years.

The percentage of the population in older age ranges with at least one friend though has increased somewhat since 1990. The figures are 15 to 24 year olds 98%, 25 to 44 year olds 96%, 45 to 64 90%, 65 to 74 year olds 85% and 75 years and older 81%. In 2006, 88% of 65 to 74 years olds and 82% of 75 year old and older indicated that they had at least one close friend while the figure for those between the ages of 45 to 64 was 93%, 25 to 44 year olds was 96% and 15 to 24 year olds was 99%.
