Percentage of people who describe their sense of belonging to their local community as very strong, by age group and province of residence, 2003

This graph presents the association between the age group and the probability of having a very strong sense of belonging to one's local community. Information is provided for five different regions (the Atlantic provinces, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairie provinces and British Columbia) and four age groups (25 to 54 years, 55 to 64 years, 65 to 74 years, and 75 years and up). In all the regions, people in the higher age groups are more likely to say that they have a very strong sense of belonging to their local community. This is especially the case for elderly people in the Atlantic provinces. To illustrate, just over 40% of people in the 75 and over age group said they have a very strong sense of belonging to their local community. By contrast, this proportion was just under 30% for people in the same age group who live in Quebec and Ontario.
