Percentage of people who expressed their views on an issue by contacting a newspaper or a politician, by age group and sex, 2003

In all age groups, men are more likely than women to have attended a public meeting in the past 12 months. As such, just over 30% of men aged 65 to 74 had attended a public meeting, versus 18% of women. The graph also illustrates that both men and women 75 years of age and over are less likely to have attended a public meeting in the past 12 months than people in all the younger age groups (25 to 54 years, 55 to 64 years and 65 to 74 years).
