Includes National Police Services and Departmental and Divisional Administration.
Newfoundland and Labrador does not have any municipal police forces. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (a provincial police force) provides policing to the larger municipalities.
Excludes personnel from Royal Canadian Mounted Police Headquarters. The Ontario Provincial Police deploy 1,672 officers to provide municipal policing services under contract and these are included as municipal, not provincial policing.
Excludes personnel from Royal Canadian Mounted Police Training Academy.
Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut do not have any municipal police forces. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is responsible for providing policing to the territories.
The percent change in the rate of police officers per 100,000 is calculated from 1999 to 2008, due to the creation of Nunavut in 1999.
