The total number of admissions is based on all admissions for a 12-month reference period and includes those who may have been admitted more than once. Each shelter visit is counted as a separate admission. For example, the same person being admitted to a facility three times in a year would count as three admissions. Return to note 1 referrer Note 2 Accompanying children includes adult children (typically aged 18 or older) accompanying a parent or caregiver, such as adult children with disabilities and those who are caretakers of a parent experiencing abuse. Return to note 2 referrer Note: In 2020/2021, the Survey of Residential Facilities for Victims of Abuse was updated to collect resident information for women, men, adults of another gender, accompanying girls, accompanying boys, and accompanying children of another gender. Women residents include transgender adults identifying as female and men residents include transgender adults identifying as male. Adults and accompanying children of another gender include people whose current gender was not reported exclusively as male or female. Also include persons who are unsure of their gender, persons who identify as both male and female, or neither male nor female.
