Education measures combine information on the highest level of education attained as well as school attendance in the previous year to identify those with no high school, high school only, and those with at least some postsecondary education (whether completed or not). Due to the small number of RJ participants who were linked to the Census education data, comparisons between education levels of the RJ participants, or between male and female RJ participants, are not statistically significant. Differences between the RJ cohort and the Nova Scotia benchmark are statistically significant. Percentages do not add to 100% due to rounding.

Note: Restorative justice (RJ) participants include youth who had contact with the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program for a Criminal Code offence, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act or other federal statues, with cases starting between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. Excludes youth who were referred to restorative justice, but who did not participate. The study does not include information on youth who were referred to the Mi’kmaw Customary Law Program of the Mi’kmaw Legal Support Network. Information on the Nova Scotia comparison groups from T1FF and the Census of Population, was adjusted by age and sex to reflect the age and sex distribution of the RJ cohort. Information on RJ participants from the Census was also adjusted to reflect the age and sex distribution of the RJ cohort. All percentages in this table are calculated on rounded data.
