Youth crime rates in this report differ slightly from the rates published in CANSIM or the Juristat on police-reported crime statistics as they are produced from the Incident-based Uniform Crime Reporting Survey (UCR2) which uses a different method for counting accused than the Uniform Crime Reporting Survey (UCR) used for standard dissemination of crime statistics. The administration of the youth justice system is the responsibility of the provinces and territories. Thus, it is important to note that jurisdictional differences in youth crime are, in part, a reflection of the differences in the administration of youth justice across Canada.
