Changes to the electronic publication have been made. Statistics Canada has modified the look and feel of pages within the Data tables section, with the aim to improve usability, as well as meet new guidelines for improving accessibility.
CIHI recently launched a new and improved online tool for accessing indicator data (www.cihi.ca). A user-friendly interface makes querying data easier and more straightforward and now includes a graphing function.
Coinciding with this issue, CIHI and Statistics Canada are releasing print publication (Health Indicators 2007) that represents the latest in a series of reports highlighting the most recently available information about the health system and the health of the population in Canada’s health regions, provinces and territories. In addition, a selection of measures of health status and the non-medical determinants of health are included in this report. For the first time this year, this publication also includes interpretive analyses of selected indicators. These analyses are aimed to assist in the use and interpretation of the data by highlighting key patient characteristics and processes of care that relate to variation in the rates. This year in focus are hip fracture hospitalization rates and wait times for hip fracture surgery.
New data tables
CIHI is adding two new indicators for fiscal year 2005/06 i.e. Wait time for hip fracture surgery and inflow/outflow ratio for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Beginning with 2005/06 rates, CIHI’s hip and knee replacement indicators are calculated for the population aged 20 years and over. These indicators are not comparable with the rates reported for previous years. Rates for the previous years, calculated using the new definition, are presented to enable comparisons over time.
