In the POHEM framework, the predictors of self-reported body mass index (BMI) are age group, previous BMI, smoking and physical activity.

Self-reported BMI is associated with measured BMI.

Self-reported BMI is associated with several outcomes: death, Health Utility Index, and specific health conditions (diabetes, osteoarthritis, heart disease, hypertension and cancer).

Self-reported BMI is associated with other risk factors: physical activity, cholesterol and hypertension.

These risk factors, in turn, influence one of the risk factors for self-reported BMI: physical activity.
