1. Full-time equivalent (FTE) educator is defined as the number of full-time educators on September 30th (or as close as possible thereafter) of the school year, plus the sum of part-time educators according to their percentage of a full-time employment allocation (determined by the province or territory).
2. Ontario data for 2002/2003 through 2005/2006 are not directly comparable with those for 1997/1998 through 2001/2002 because of changes in methodology in 2002/2003. This change for Ontario also affects data comparability at the Canada level.
3. Excludes publicly funded hospital and provincial schools, care, treatment and correctional facilities.
4. Includes educators in provincially funded schools (including "associated independent" and "historic" high schools) and excluding "independent" First Nations schools and postsecondary sites.
5. All educators in Lloydminster are included in Saskatchewan's counts and none of them are captured in the counts for Alberta.
6. Nunavut was created on April 1, 1999. Prior to that date, data for Nunavut were included with data for the Northwest Territories. This creates a break in series for the Northwest Territories in 1999/2000. As a result, the overall percentage change is calculated for the period 1999/2000 to 2005/2006 for the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Notes: Due to the nature of ESESP data collection, these data are updated on an ongoing basis and are therefore subject to further revisions. The data presented in this table were updated as of March 10, 2008. These data are for public schools only and do not include private schools, federal schools and schools for the visually and hearing impaired.
