As defined by the Survey of Earned Doctorates, the Humanities include:
History;
Letters (for example, linguistics; literature – English, French, American);
Foreign languages and literature;
Other humanities (for example, archaeology;
art history/criticism/conservation; music; philosophy; religion; drama/theatre arts).
