Variable descriptions

noccde6 - NOCS - 2001 end of reference year

  • Type and length: Character(4.0) Format: A999
  • Description: National Occupational Classification for Statistics 2001 - represents the occupational code at the end of reference year or at the end of the employment spell if job ended before the end of the reference year.
The NOC-S 2001 is a statistical classification designed by Statistics Canada to classify data on occupations. Although it is based on the National Occupational Classification (NOC is a product of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada), NOCS-S 2001 has different aggregation structure than NOC. That was necessary because of the special requirements of a statistical classification.
The NOC-S is a minor revision of the 1991 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) that addresses the need for increased attention to the occupations in information technology and the need to integrate completely with the NOC.

Codeset is the same as for variable NOCCDS6.
Note: Starting in reference year 2004, NOCS-2001 will be used for all main SLID products. At the same time, previous occupation classification (SOC1991 or variable S91CDE6) will not be derived.

noccds6 - NOCS - 2001 start of reference year

  • Type and length: Character(4.0) Format: A999
  • Description: National Occupational Classification for Statistics 2001 - represents the occupational code at beginning of reference year.

If the job started during the reference year, the NOC-S 2001 code at the begining of reference year is set to "9999". For those jobs, only the code at the end of the year/end of the job is valid (see NOCCDE6).
Codeset is the same as for variable NOCCDE6.
Note: Starting in reference year 2004, NOCS-2001 will be used for all the main SLID products. At the same time this classification will totally replace the previous classification SOC-1991 (or S91CDS6).
