• Description: Disability status, for the reference year. This is a summary flag in response to several questions. Starting with reference year 1999, the screening questions for disability status were significantly modified to reflect the new questions prepared for the 2001 Census. The new questions ask whether the person has any difficulty doing any of the activities of daily living and whether the person has a physical condition or mental condition or health problem that reduces the amount or kind of activity he or she can do in any of a few different types of situations. Starting in 1999, this variable is "yes" if any of the following variables is "yes": CNDFG26, CNDHM26, CNDWK26, CNDJS26, CNDOT26. Prior to 1999, it is the same derivation based on the following variables, which represent the old version of the questions: DISLWK26, DISLOT26, DISHAN26.
