Variable descriptions

durilm4 - Duration of de facto marital state, num. of completed months

  • Type and length: Numeric(4.0) Format: 9999 (expressed in months)
  • Description: Duration of de facto marital state ignoring legal changes (number of complete months).
    If STATE4 = divorced, this duration will be the time since separation.
    If STATE4= married, this duration will be the time since a common-law union started, if there was one prior to the marriage.
    For all other values of STATE4, this variable will be set to "Not applicable".

  • Description: Duration of de facto marital state ignoring legal changes (number of complete years). If STATE4 = divorced, this duration will be the time since separation. If STATE4 = married, this duration will be the time since a common-law union started, if there was one prior to the marriage. For all other values of STATE4, this variable will be set to "Not applicable".

  • Type and length: Date(8.0) Format: YYYYMMDD
  • Description: Date on which the marital state ended. For unended marital states, a date in the following reference year will be used. All SLID "date" type variables can be viewed as a concatenation of the three sub-component fields year, month and day. The standard SLID reserved values are assigned, when necessary, to the component fields, and not to the complete date variable. So it is possible to have a mixture of valid values and reserved codes in a "date" type variable. This variable is not collected but will be derived through processing.

  • Description: Marital status of respondent. The first state for all persons, (i.e. STATEID = 01) is always 06 = "Single (never married)". Persons separated from a common-law relationship are included in 03 = "Separated".
