Labour Force Survey
Employment jumped by an estimated 55,000 in March, continuing the upward trend that began in September 2006. Despite this growth in employment, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.1%, as more people entered the labour market.

Payroll employment, earnings and hours
The average weekly earnings of payroll employees increased $5.12 in January to $763.68, up 0.7% from December and 3.1% higher compared with January 2006. In Canada's largest industrial sectors, year-over-year growth in January varied from increases of 3.7% in manufacturing and 3.2% in health and social assistance to a 1.1% advance in education services.

Employment Insurance
An estimated 484,330 Canadians received regular Employment Insurance benefits in January, down 0.2% from December.

GDP per capita and productivity in Canada and the United States
Canada's economic output per person is lower than it is in the United States, but the gap has narrowed since the turn of the millennium.
