Emigration data, which comes from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), were revised by CRA. In addition, minor provincial and age distribution adjustments were made to the estimates.
The difference in this exclusion is caused by the adjustments in the collection procedures in the 2011 Census. Adjustments were made to clearly distinguish between nursing home and residence for senior citizens, with the former being an institutional collective dwelling while the latter is not. In the 2006 Census, the two types of collective dwellings were tallied together under “Special care facilities”. The impact from this adjustment varies from province to province. In the case of Quebec, the estimates of institutional residents were revised downward as a result.
