- Table 36-10-0649-01 Non Profit Satellite Account by activity, seasonally adjusted at annual rates (x 1,000,000)
Additional information
The quarterly satellite account of non-profit institutions and volunteering provides a snapshot of the non-profit sector with key statistics of gross domestic product, income, outlays and employment. The satellite account is an extension of the contributions to the overall gross domestic product, with data categorized by non-profit institutions serving businesses, households and governments. The satellite account also provides a breakdown of current dollar non-profit institutions’ gross domestic product and employment for individual activities, such as health care, education and research, social services, and other activities. This interactive tool facilitates easy access to the numerous data sets in this satellite account. The tool highlights the latest results with a time-series overview of non-profit institutions by sector and activity.
How to use
How to use this interactive visual
The non-profit institutions indicators dashboard is an interactive tool that provides access to current and historical quarterly data on non-profit gross domestic product (GDP), income and jobs. The tool allows users to compare data on non-profit institutions in Canada, by sectors and activities.
Overview page
This page displays the charts on key indicators for non-profit institutions serving governments, non-profit institutions serving businesses and non-profit institutions serving households and their quarterly percentage changes.
Select the indicator: On the upper-right side of the screen, you can select an indicator with the option(s) of: GDP 2012 constant prices, GDP current prices, incomes, or the number of jobs.
The stacked column chart in the middle of the page displays data points of each indicator, over a time-series. The circular charts at the bottom display each non-profit subsector's quarterly change, by indicator.
The three toggles button on the left navigate to different category pages.
Sector page
This page shows a time-series overview of the number of jobs, current price GDP, and current period growth rates, by sector.
Select the sector: Use the buttons on the upper-right side of the screen to select the sector, with the charts dynamically changing to the selected sector.
The two stacked column charts on the left side of the page show a time series overview of gross domestic product at current prices and the number of jobs.
The top right gauge visual displays the share of the sector’s contribution to the overall economy’s GDP. The bar charts on the lower-right side of the page presents the quarterly changes of key indicators.

Activity page
The activity page provides a time-series overview of the number of jobs current price GDP and share of total by activity, as well as the current period quarterly changes.
Select the indicator: Use the buttons on the top-left of the page to select data by either GDP current price, or by the number of jobs.
Select the sector: Use the buttons in the top-center of the page to select a sector overview: total non-profit institutions or total non-profit institutions excluding governments.
Select the activity you wish to view from the dropdown at the top-right of the screen. Click on the “Select all” button to view all activity at once, or uncheck “Select all,” and then select the activity to view.
The top-middle stacked charts show the number of jobs for each activity. The bottom-middle pie chart shows the GDP share of each activity in the non-profit sector. The bar chart at the right of the page shows the percentage changes for the latest quarter of each activity.

Keyboard shortcuts and screen reader tips
Keyboard shortcuts and screen reader tips are available by entering the visual and pressing CTRL + Enter.
While in the visual, pressing SHIFT + "?" will open the keyboard shortcuts.
When focus is on a visual, the data table can be displayed by pressing ALT + SHIFT + F11.
