Third quarter 2008
The current account surplus with the rest of the world narrowed in the
third quarter of 2008, as exports slowed and earnings on foreign direct
investment declined. On the financial side of the ledger, cross-border direct
investment activity picked up while Canadian foreign portfolio investment
eased and non-residents reduced their holdings of Canadian securities.
