Study: Changes and Challenges for Residential Real Estate Lessors

This article begins by looking at factors that prompted many renters to buy homes in recent years.  Factors examined include income and wealth levels, interest rates, rents and property costs, economic conditions and changing financing options. The article also considers some possible effects that the shift towards home ownership has had on residential real estate markets.

Also included is a detailed profile of renters, including a description of the characteristics of households that are most likely to be renters. Characteristics examined include household income, province of residence, age, and type of household. The article also looks at how the characteristics of renters have changed since 1986, and offers a brief profile of the residential real estate lessors industry.
