12-month change:

  1. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.8% in the 12 months to December, matching the increase in November.
  2. Consumer prices rose in all major components in the 12 months to December.
  3. Consumer prices rose in all provinces in the 12 months to December, except Alberta which posted no change in its All-items CPI. The largest increase occurred in Nova Scotia.

Month-to-month change:

  1. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI decreased 0.1% in December after decreasing 0.2% in November.
  2. On a monthly basis and before seasonal adjustment, the CPI fell 0.6% in December, after falling 0.2% in November.

Bank of Canada's Core Index:

  1. The Bank of Canada's core index rose 1.1% in the 12 months to December, following an increase of 1.2% in November.

  2. Natural gas (-8.2%)
  3. Video equipment (-12.3%)
  4. Fresh vegetables (-5.8%)
  5. Purchase of passenger vehicles (-0.6%)
