Statistics Canada is updating the basket of goods and services used in the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The update will be implemented with the release of the May 2011 CPI data, on June 29, 2011.

The weights, as with previous updates, are based on information derived primarily from Statistics Canada's Survey of Household Spending (SHS). The new weighting pattern will be based on 2009 consumer expenditures and will replace the current 2005 weights. The CPI's time base will remain 2002 = 100. To satisfy the needs of certain users, an All-Items CPI with a base year of 1992 = 100 will continue to be available.
