  • After three consecutive years of declining revenues, wireline companies were able to raise their revenues over the previous year.  In 2005, they increased their revenues by 1.0% to $22.9 billion.
  • The revenues of the wireless segment jumped 16.0% to $11.0 billion in 2005. This growth was fuelled mainly by local telephony and calling features but specialty wireless services also contributed.
  • Operating revenues in the reseller industry fell by 2.2% in 2005, the first time in three years.  This decline would have been larger, if not for the strong growth in retail internet service.
  • Operating revenues in the satellite and other telecommunications industries marginally grew 0.3% to $659 million.  This increase was not enough to offset the 6.6% rise in operating expenses resulting in a 15.4% drop in operating profits.
  • Total labour expenses increased by 6.4% over 2004.  While both full-time and part-time expenses increased, part-time employment expenses grew at a much faster rate of 23.7%.
  • Wireless subscriptions increased by 12.4% to16.7 million subscribers. This growth has resulted in more than 50% of Canadians having a cell phone.
