Airports with NAV CANADA Air Traffic Control Towers
The 42 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers reported 379,141 aircraft take-offs and landings in March, up 3.4% compared with March 2006 (366,577 movements). This marked the tenth consecutive increase in year-over-year monthly comparisons. Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by 22 of these airports in March 2007. The variations ranged from 88.8% for Moncton/Greater Moncton International to -40.9% for Chicoutimi/St-Honoré.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) decreased by 0.4% (-1,022 movements) in March 2007 compared with the same month a year earlier. Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) increased by 12.6 % (+13,586 movements) in March 2007 compared with March 2006.
In terms of itinerant movements, the year-over-year variations for March ranged from a 49.9% increase (+1,852 movements) for Moncton/Greater Moncton International to a decline of 45.4% (-1,512 movements) for Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. Nineteen airports recorded increases in itinerant movements compared to 25 airports in February 2007.
In terms of local movements, the year-over-year variations for March ranged from a 153.3% increase (+1,196 movements) for Windsor to a 75.0% decrease (-18 movements) for Vancouver Harbour. Montréal/Mirabel International (-52.9%) and Whitehorse International (-48.9%) also showed sizable decreases in March 2007 compared to March 2006. Twenty one airports recorded increases in local movements compared to 18 airports in February 2007.
The data in this bulletin represent preliminary monthly statistics for airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers.
