Aircraft Movement Statistics July 2005 (Preliminary)

Airports with NAV CANADA Air Traffic Control Towers

The data in this bulletin represent preliminary monthly statistics for airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers.

The 42 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers reported 425,998 aircraft take-offs and landings in July, up 1.8% compared with July 2004 (418,497 movements). Year-over-year increases in aircraft movements were reported by half of the airports in July 2005. The increases ranged from 0.5% at Winnipeg International to 51.8% at Chicoutimi/St-Honoré. Year-over-year decreases ranged from -0.2% at Boundary Bay to -18.2% at Sault Ste Marie.

Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) increased by 2.7% (8,042 movements) in July compared with the same month a year earlier. Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) decreased by 0.5% (-541 movements) in July compared with July 2004.

The top 10 airports in terms of volumes of itinerant movements in July showed year-over-year variations ranging from a 49.1% increase (+3,137 movements) at St-Jean, Québec to a decline of 1.1% (-113 movements) at Victoria International. Of the top 10 airports, 7 recorded increases in itinerant movements compared with 4 airports in June 2005.

The top 10 airports in terms of local movements showed year-over-year variations ranging from a 52.5% increase (+1,438 movements) at Chicoutimi/St-Honoré to a decline of 16.1% (-1,472 movements) at Kitchener/Waterloo. Of the top 10 airports, 7 recorded increases in local movements compared with 5 airports in June 2005.

More detailed statistics for airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations will be released in the Aircraft Movement Statistics monthly report (TP141 - Volume 1). Statistics for airports without air traffic control towers will appear in TP 141 – Volume 2.
