Aircraft Movement Statistics May 2006 (Preliminary)Airports with NAV CANADA Air Traffic Control TowersThe data in this bulletin represent preliminary monthly statistics for airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers. The 42 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers reported 396,572 aircraft take-offs and landings in May, down 2.8% compared with May 2005 (407,889 movements). Year-over-year decreases in aircraft movements were reported by 22 of the airports in May 2006. The variations ranged from 65.3%at Winnipeg/St. Andrews to -44.2% at Windsor. Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) decreased by 1.1% (-3,187 movements) in May 2006 compared with the same month a year earlier. Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) decreased by 6.5% (-8,130 movements) in May 2006 compared with May 2005. In terms of itinerant movements, the year-over-year variations for May ranged from a 32.6% increase (+722 movements) at Winnipeg/St. Andrews to a decline of 42.1% (-1,928 movements) at Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. Twenty airports recorded decreases in itinerant movements compared with 17 airports in April 2006. In terms of local movements, Calgary/Springbank was the busiest airport in May. The year-over-year variations for May ranged from a 109.0% increase (+676 movements) at Halifax International to a -68.6% decrease (-1,114 movements) at Windsor. Twenty four airports recorded decreases in local movements compared with 20 airports in April 2006. More detailed statistics for airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations will be released in the Aircraft Movement Statistics monthly report (TP141 - Volume 1).
