In 2011, the number of take-offs and landings recorded at 142 Canadian airports without air traffic control towers was 684,593 movements. Peterborough, Ontario (33,717 movements) and Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador (31,856 movements) were the most active sites in 2011.
There were 532,585 itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) recorded by 122 airports without air traffic control towers in 2011. Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, the most active site, represented 6.0% of the total itinerant movements. It reported 31,856 take-offs and landings, up 10.3% from 2010.
There were 123,073 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded by 74 airports without air traffic control towers in 2011. Peterborough, Ontario (27,060 movements) and Welland/Niagara Central, Ontario (17,011 movements) reported the greatest number of local movements in 2011.
