In 2008, the number of take-offs and landings at the 124 airports without air traffic control towers was 629,678 movements. This is a decrease of 5.3% compared to the 664,667 take-offs and landings for the 123 airports reported in 2007. Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador was the most active site overall in 2008, recording a total of 32,065 movements.
There were 475,684 itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) in 2008, down 3.8% from a year earlier. Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, reported the largest number of itinerant movements in 2008 with 32,065 take-offs and landings, down slightly from the previous year.
There were 124,683 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) in 2008, down 11.1% compared with 2007. Welland/Niagara Central, Ontario was the most active airport in 2008, handling 22,288 take-offs and landings, down 55.1% over the previous year.
