Following four years of increases, the number of aircraft take-offs
and landings at Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers
and/or flight service stations decreased by 5.0% in 2009. Ninety-three
airports reported almost 5.9 million movements in 2009 compared
with 6.2 million movements at 95 airports in 2008.
Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) decreased 4.2%
(-180,943 movements) in 2009 compared with 2008.
Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport)
declined 7.1% (-132,219 movements) in 2009 compared with 2008.
