  1. In 2012, more than 19.6 million passengers traveled on scheduled air services between Canada and the United States, a 4.0% increase compared with 2011.
  1. In 2012, the distribution of transborder scheduled air passenger traffic across Canada varied slightly as compared to 2011.
  2. Alberta experienced the largest gain in passenger traffic between Canada and the United States (296,089 passengers) while Northwest Territories experienced the smallest gain (1,026 passengers).
  3. The majority, or 38.3%, of all reported scheduled air passenger traffic between Canada and the United States occurred in Ontario. Alberta accounted for 19.4% of all reported transborder traffic followed by British Columbia and Quebec with 17.8% and 14.8%, respectively.
  4. Prince Edward Island (+19.5%), Northwest Territories (+16.0%) and Yukon (+15.0%) experienced the largest year over year increases in scheduled air passenger traffic between Canada and the United States.
  5. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick experienced decreases in scheduled air passenger traffic between Canada and the United States. Nova Scotia’s traffic was down 19,982 passengers (- 4.2%) and New Brunswick’s was down 1,025 passengers (-0.8%) as compared to 2011.
  1. The distribution of transborder traffic across the United States remained essentially unchanged in 2012 as compared to 2011.
  2. New York experienced the largest gain in volume of passengers travelling between the United States and Canada (283,640 passengers) while New Jersey experienced the largest decline in volume of passengers (-62,090 passengers).
  3. Transborder travel continued to be concentrated to/from the states of California and Florida. Approximately 18.0% of all reported 2012 transborder traffic occurred in California and another 18.0% in Florida. Nevada followed, accounting for 8.8% of transborder scheduled air passenger traffic.
  4. Comparing 2011 and 2012, the largest percentage increases in transborder passengers were observed in New York (24.0%), District of Columbia (16.0%) and Illinois (15.6%).
  5. The largest transborder scheduled air passenger traffic decreases were reported in New Jersey (-8.8%), Wisconsin (-3.2%) and Nevada (-2.7%).
