There were 506,342 aircraft take-offs and landings at the 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in June 2012 compared with 524,039 movements in June 2011. Year-over-year decreases were reported by 59 airports. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (36,681 movements) and Vancouver International, British Columbia (26,490 movements) were the most active sites in June 2012.

Itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) decreased 3.6% (-13,564 movements) in June 2012 from the same month the previous year. These airports reported 366,941 movements compared with 380,505 movements in June 2011. Year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 830 movements (+51.0%) at Wabush, Newfoundland and Labrador to a drop of 1,207 movements (-20.5%) at Vancouver Harbour, British Columbia. Thirty-four airports reported year-over-year increases in the number of itinerant aircraft movements in June 2012.

In June 2012, there were 139,401 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded. This represents a decrease of 2.9% (-4,133 movements) compared with the previous year. Toronto/Buttonville Municipal, Ontario (10,136 movements) and Boundary Bay, British Columbia (8,224 movements) recorded the largest number of local movements.

Itinerant movements: domestic, transborder and international

There were 312,668 domestic itinerant movements reported by 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations in June 2012, down 4.4% (-14,334 movements) from June 2011. Vancouver International, British Columbia (19,821 movements) and Calgary International, Alberta (16,486 movements) reported the greatest number of domestic itinerant movements. Thirty-three airports reported year-over-year increases in the number of domestic movements in June 2012.

Eighty-six airports recorded 43,885 transborder itinerant movements (between Canada and the United States) in June 2012, up 1.5% from June 2011. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario (15,680 movements) reported the greatest number of transborder itinerant movements.

In June 2012, thirty-eight airports reported 10,388 other international itinerant movements, up 1.2% from June 2011. Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International, Ontario, recorded 4,886 other international itinerant movements. This represents 47.0% of the total other international itinerant movements reported.
