Aircraft take-offs and landings at the 93 Canadian airports with NAV CANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations decreased 3.8% in February 2011 from February 2010. These airports reported 358,016 movements in February compared with 372,217 movements in February 2010. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Ontario (32,059 movements) followed by Vancouver International, British Columbia (21,124 movements) were the most active sites in February 2011. Year-over-year increases were reported by 40 airports.

There were 264,159 itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) reported in February 2011. This represents a 2.7% decrease (-7,273 movements) compared with the same month a year earlier. The year-over-year variations ranged from an increase of 2,321 movements (+232.6%) at Boundary Bay, British Columbia to a decline of 1,759 movements (-40.9%) at Abbotsford, British Columbia. Year-over-year increases in the number of itinerant aircraft movements were reported by 44 airports in February 2011.

In February 2011, there were 93,857 local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) recorded. This represents a decrease of 6.9% (-6,928 movements) compared with the previous year. Calgary/Springbank, Alberta (5,312 movements) followed by Montréal/St-Hubert , Quebec ( 5,270 movements) recorded the largest number of local movements.

Itinerant movements: domestic, transborder and international

There were 214,896 domestic itinerant movements reported in February 2011, down 3.2% (-7,145 movements) from February 2010. Vancouver International, British Columbia (15,637 movements) followed by Calgary International, Alberta (13,758 movements) reported the greatest number of domestic itinerant movements.

Seventy-six airports reported 37,220 transborder itinerant movements (between Canada and the United States) in February 2011, up 1.4% (+502 movements) from the previous year. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Ontario (13,982 movements) reported the greatest number of transborder itinerant movements. This represents 37.6% of the total transborder itinerant movements.

In February 2011, thirty-seven airports reported 12,043 other international itinerant movements, down 5.0% (-630 movements) from the previous year. Toronto/Lester B Pearson International, Ontario (5,048 movements) recorded the greatest number of other international itinerant movements. This represents 41.9% of the total other international itinerant movements reported.
